Keesha’s eyes fluttered open and her hands grabbed for the back of his head, trying to force him lower on her. She wanted to feel that thick tongue on her pussy, lapping up her juices, giving her the relief she needed. But Battle played at his own pace. She knew he partially did it to get her on edge, and damn if it wasn’t working just like he intended.

Ever so gently, he traced the outlines of her pussy lips. His other hand went under her big, plump ass, lifting her up just a little and making her gasp in a breath. Damn this man. His thumb was pressing into the crease between her ass cheeks, so close to her entrance. She tried to grind up against his mouth but he wouldn’t let her, keeping her down by the hip.

“Battle, please,” she pleaded softly, sleep still heavy in her eyes.

“What do you want, Keesh?” he asked, sounding perfectly innocent and unaware of the torture he was putting her through.

“I want you to eat me out,” she whined, little moans puncturing her words as he let his tongue dip deeper into her honey pot. “I want you to make me scream with your mouth and tongue and then fuck me with your huge cock!”

“All you had to do was ask,” he said.

She didn’t have to look down to know the devilish smile he wore when he said it. Immediately, he attacked her pussy with his mouth. His tongue lapped against her pussy lips and then moved up, swirling circles around her clit. He sucked her clit into his mouth and she mewled loudly, her long nails digging into his skin. Even though he healed fast, she could still feel the scars on his neck.

His thumb forced into her pussy and she clamped down around it, grinding against his touch. Keesha let go of his hair with one hand and started playing with her nipples. She knew what she liked and she knew Battle loved it when she played with herself while he gave it to her like she needed it. He growled a little and it reverbed through her, making her tremble even harder. Her orgasm was growing fast and hard, the demanding pulse of her core making her heart pound faster.

“Oh my god, Battle,” she squealed, lifting her hips to push herself harder against his mouth.

She was drowning in her juices. The only thing that could have made it better was his cock. Battle must have sensed that she was close to coming. He tore himself away from her slit quickly and rose up, kissing her hard on the mouth. She moaned into the kiss, tasting her own sweetness on his lips and tongue.

Roughly, he spread her legs wider and pushed into her. Keesha’s legs wrapped around his hips, her heels against the back of his thighs, and her whole body convulsed as he started pumping into her. Within a few thrusts, he had sunken into her pussy, filling her completely with his hard, veiny cock. Her moans grew more and more strangled until she could only make little wheezing noises, her head buried against his chest and her hands clutching at his sides.

“Come for me, baby,” he murmured through gritted teeth.

“Battle!” she screamed.

The orgasm exploded through her, like a wave of fire and pleasure burning within her so hard and fast she nearly forgot to breathe. Keesha wailed, scraping at his sides as her back arched and her hips ground against Battle. Her pussy muscles gripped him hard, begging for him to come right along with her. The way Battle hissed and then roared was the sweetest sound, and when she felt his thick seed spew into her, she could finally relax her body.

Battle lay on top of her for a few moments, her hands reluctant to let him go. Both of them were breathing heavily, dappled with sweat. Tiny convulsions stuttered through Keesha every now and then, reminders of that fantastic peak Battle had brought her to.

“Good morning,” Battle muttered with a satisfied smile, rolling off of Keesha and pulling her into his arms in the same movement.

“Morning,” she said, more of a purr than anything else.

“I need to go to work today.”

“Can’t you just stay one more day?” Keesha asked sleepily, though she knew the answer.

Warren had given Battle a few days off on account of what had happened. Diesel, Warren and Kacey had shown up the same night to pick up the wolves. With the help of Ares, the two delinquents were spending some time in Diesel’s holding cells, all healed up and bloody angry. Battle decided to not press charges. The other shifters understood. Pack and clan matters were internal and any shifter had the right to decide how to go about them. He didn’t fight Diesel’s suggestion to keep them in jail for a while for breaking and entering, though.

There was no sign of Achilles, and Battle assured Keesha that he didn’t think he’d be showing his bruised snout around Shifter Grove for a while. In any case, it now seemed that the wolf might have more beef with Argo than he did with Battle.

What it meant for Keesha was that she’d got to spend a few blessed days with her man, just sleeping, fucking and talking. It had been pure magic – except for the bits where they’d had to clean blood off the wood floors. That hadn’t been fun. There was still some splatter where Battle had thrown one of the wolves against the wall.

“No, I have to go. I promised Warren.”

“I’ll come with you, then,” Keesha said, yawning and stretching.

“Are you sure?”

Keesha rolled over onto her stomach and rested her chin on Battle’s chest. His steely gray eyes looked at her with the kind of softness that he had in them when they first met at the airport. Now there wasn’t that guarded worry behind them either – just calm and affection. Now more than ever, Keesha felt safe with him… and that wasn’t just the happy post-sex hormones talking!

“Of course I’m sure. Do you need to ask?”

“Well,” Battle started, looking a tiny bit hesitant. “I think your flight was scheduled for today.”

It took a minute before Keesha understood what he meant. Her flight back to Boston, right – screw that. She wasn’t going anywhere. Just the thought of going back to cold, uncaring, uninterested Boston made her skin crawl.

“I’m not going to get on that flight. No way.”

Battle grinned wide. He pulled her close again and Keesha moaned softly as he kissed her, his tongue snaking into her mouth. How could she ever leave for Boston when her bear was right there, by her side in Shifter Grove?

EPILOGUE

Keesha

Keesha had the right mind to start bouncing up and down on the spot. She didn’t, though – not because she couldn’t, but because she figured it would be good to at least keep up the pretense of professional calm when she opened the first and only law office in Shifter Grove.

It was just a little speck of an office on the main street, not too far from Cerise’s diner and within a stone-throw of Pearl’s General Goods. Trey and Tyler had been giving it the finishing touches for the last week or so and now it was finally the day that she could open up the doors and say that she was ready for business. Her heart bounced inside of her, even if she stayed mostly still.

Battle’s arm was around her waist as usual, his fingers caressing her side. She was holding onto the key so tightly that her knuckles were starting to hurt.

“Baby, you can open the door, you know,” Battle said with a chuckle.

It was lunchtime and Battle had come to town just for her grand opening. Of course, it wasn’t so grand – she’d just unlock the door and step in. Everybody knew that she would be taking her first clients in the second half of the day and she already had several appointments on the books. Some who wanted to go over the legalities of their businesses, some who wanted to talk to her about past deeds they’d rather forget… There was a lot of business in Shifter Grove for a lawyer who was more than happy to listen without judging and help without nagging – she was just the woman for the job!

“I know I can,” she said softly, but still didn’t budge.

She’d taken the bar exam in Idaho (after having received confirmation that she’d passed in Massachusetts) and the results had come in a few weeks ago. Between taking the exam and getting her results, she’d gone back to Boston once to pack the rest of her belongings and ship them over to Idaho. Slate, ever the wise-ass, had reminded her that she probably wouldn’t need all of those high heels in Shifter Grove. She was going to show him!

Her favorite black Louboutins were helping her stand taller, almost reaching Battle’s shoulder. She was wearing one of her pencil skirts and a simple lavender button-up. So what if she was going to dress a little fancy for Shifter Grove? She was more than ready to kick the heels off for some boots and slam a hardhat on if Battle needed some help in the forest. But she was damn well going to stay a classy lady, too – at least at work.

“You’ve got this,” Battle whispered, kissing her forehead.

Keesha smiled and stepped forward, fitting the key in the lock. She turned it and opened the door, a little gasp spilling over her lips. She’d been in the office countless times, picking out furniture, the color of the walls, everything. But this time was special. It was
her
office. Her very own business. Here in Idaho, with a man who loved and supported her by her side. Those tears she never cried when Achilles attacked them bubbled up now and one tear rolled down her cheek. She wiped it away quickly.

“I’ve got this,” she agreed, and stepped in.

Battle and her had talked about marriage as well, and it was definitely something they were looking forward to – the ring on Keesha’s finger said as much. But Battle wanted to do it right and as much as Keesha could have been happy with a small wedding, the idea of having the big party and the fluffy white dress to go along with it made her giddy with glee. She was more than happy to just sneak off and get hitched, but if Battle wanted to have a party, she was damn well glad to save up some money before they really tied the knot. Either way, she was the happiest woman in Shifter Grove.

Battle followed her and carefully closed the door behind them. Keesha walked through the little reception room and into her space, sitting down on the edge of the table. Battle hovered in the doorway, smirking.

“What are you grinning at?” Keesha queried, smiling back just as brightly.

Battle shrugged good-naturedly. He was wearing a black wife-beater and worn jeans, and he looked just as mouth-watering as usual.

“Oh, I’m just looking forward to the first time I can make you scream my name on top of that big ol’ table.”

Keesha poked her tongue out a little, smiling. Yeah, she couldn’t wait either.

“Lock the door,” Keesha purred.

She didn’t need to tell Battle twice.

WAITING FOR WOLVES EXCERPT

“Well, I figured what with having no kids and no man, I might as well shock and appall the local peacocks some more with my progressively horrific gardening,” Claire said, sticking her tongue out.

“Please. These biddies only understand roses and those roses better be pink. You know that.”

“I do,” Claire said noncommittally, taking a sip of her drink.

“So?” Clarissa pressed, her beautiful brown eyes boring right into Claire’s soul.

“I promised mama.”

“Ah. What did you promise, exactly?” Clarissa asked, some of her joy dimming a tiny bit.

“That I’d try to be happy and I’d try new things.”

“New things like the Greenville Home Garden Extravaganza? Wilcox and Adley will demolish you for getting rid of mama’s rose garden, you know.”

“That’s what mama said too.”

“Well, we’re both genuinely intelligent women, dear sister,” Clarissa said, grinning.

Claire smirked. Yes, all of the Delune women were bright as hell and for some of them, that had caused a lot of trouble. A real Southern woman had to be dainty, sophisticated and accommodating in all things. Claire had never wanted to be all that sophisticated and she could only accommodate so much ignorance before she could feel a vein popping in her head. She’d rather get down and dirty with some gardening and landscaping than make finger sandwiches and have tea.

While that sounded like it would sit just right with plenty of local gentlemen, that had yet to be proven true. After a few disappointing run-ins with men barely worthy of the title, she’d just about given up on mankind altogether. If it weren’t for the pesky problem of needing one to start a family, she would have wiped her hands clean of them altogether. That realization was pounded into her all the more clearly whenever she saw one of her younger brothers or sisters, all of them already the proud parents of at least one happy, rosy-cheeked offspring.

“I’d like to think I am as well, but I am at the end of my wits here, I think.”

“What do you mean?” Clarissa asked, wiping a bead of sweat from her forehead.

“I think I need to leave Greenville.”

As soon as Claire said those words, she knew she was right. There was nothing in Greenville or Georgia in general for her anymore. Not since her mother’s passing, anyway. She had devoted the last seven years of her life to taking care of her ailing mother and now with her gone, she found herself as directionless as she’d ever been. She needed something new. Something real. And she wasn’t entirely sure what that could be.
