She nodded.

He turned his head toward the house. “Hey, everybody, I’m going to be a dad!” He smiled up at Margarine.

Every member of Chromes and Wheels came out to congratulate the couple. Corks on champagne bottles popped, and someone brought out a lawn chair for Margarine to sit in. Remy stood behind her, his hands on her shoulders, not willing to let her out of his sight. He never tired of seeing her, big with his child.

Remy didn’t know the exact moment her family left the house, but he found himself alone with Margarine for the first time all day.

She stood at the kitchen window and stared out into her backyard. A most beautiful glow surrounded her, and she held out her hand for him to come join her.

“It’s just like I imagined. Me. You. My family.”

Remy gazed out the window to view what appeared as a recreational campground. Fifty tents pitched all over her backyard were filled with members of her family. Remy wrapped his arms around her and tucked her head against his chest.

“I love you, Margarine Butter.”

“I never stopped loving you.” She stood on her tiptoes and gave him a kiss.

He dug into his pocket and pulled out a ring. “Will you make me the happiest man on Earth and marry me?”

“Oh, Remy. Yes!”

“It’s time to push, Mrs. Montgomery.” The doctor sat at the end of the delivery table.

Margie steeled herself for the next contraction, and with Remy’s arm wrapped around her shoulders giving her strength, she strained against the stirrups and screamed.

“Here we go…” The doctor held the baby up, and the nurse cut the umbilical cord. “You have a nice healthy son, Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery.”

The doctor handed the baby to Remy, and he placed his son on Margarine’s chest. He kissed Margarine’s forehead. “You did great, babe.”

The door to the room swung open, and a flustered nurse stepped inside. “Dr. Larson, I’m afraid we have a problem. Our waiting room is overfilled with…” The nurse wrinkled her nose and lowered her voice, “bikers. They insist they’re here to see Mrs. Montgomery. They’re scaring the other nurses, sir.”

Remy laughed. “You might as well let them come in. They won’t leave until they see the newest member of Chromes and Wheels.”

One by one, each member came in the hospital room. The boisterous gang grew uncharacteristically quiet. Remy leaned down and whispered in her ear. She nodded, and handed the baby to the man she loved with her whole heart.

Remy carried the baby to the foot of the bed closer to Margarine’s family. “I’d like you to meet Harley Luck Montgomery.” He glanced over his shoulder and smiled at Margarine. “Our son.”

Multipublished Romance author, Debra Kayn, is not only a writer, she’s a wife and Mom to four great kids. When she’s not staying up late dreaming of new stories to write, she enjoys riding motorcycles, gardening, playing tennis, and spending time with a fishing pole in her hands.
