A more or less precisely defined spatial region within a site, town, or landscape, the area of which shares certain characteristics.
zone of visual intrusion
(ZVI)
[Ge].
The area around a building, road, or some other construction or feature from which it can be seen by anyone standing at ground level. The ZVI can be changed by the introduction of screening through tree planting or mounding up banks of earth.
zong
[Ar].
A tubular jade object with a square cross-section and a circular hollow in the centre. Found in Liangzhu, Shang, and Zhou culture contexts of Neolithic China. Sometimes decorated with t'ao t'ieh motifs perhaps representing a mythical animal figure. The purpose and symbolic significance of zongs are unknown.

zoomorphic
[De].
Based on the appearance or characteristics of an animal. In art this is usually some kind of depiction or three-dimensional representation, perhaps in stylized form, of the whole or part of one or more animals. The term can also apply to the attribution of animal form or nature to something else, for example a deity or supernatural being.
zoomorphic brooch
[Ar].
A fastener for clothes which includes the representation of animal forms in its design or decoration.
zophorus

The frieze of an entablature.
