Logan blushed and coughed into his fist. “Put on the ring for us.”

She did. “Perfect fit. How does it look?” She held out her hand and twirled.

“Like you’re about to become a bona fide Kincaid.”

“I love the sound of that.”

Chapter Nineteen

Lexie heaved a sigh of relief. Connor had returned from the ranch to let her know Logan was on his way home after handing in the videotape evidence to Sheriff Harper. Meaning Sam Warren and his father would no longer be able to cause problems in their lives. Which was a welcome change from last week. She had been out in town with Logan when they’d spotted the former deputy and Anna-Sue walking hand in hand, although Warren looked as if he was in pain from being so close to the girl.

For a moment, it seemed as if he was going to approach them, but Warren had taken one look at Logan’s face and kept on walking. Logan had slung a protective arm around her waist. Despite the jolt to her nerves at seeing the man, she’d laughed it off and reminded Logan that she survived the deputy’s first attack. He hadn’t been amused.

Connor had only stayed long enough to give her the news and grab his cell phone, which she noticed he’d forgotten for the second time on the kitchen counter. Better go and bring it to him, she thought as the landline began to ring.

One look at the caller ID had Lexie rolling her eyes. Anna-Sue. Recalling a lesson she’d once heard in Sunday school, Lexie picked up the phone.

“Hi,” she answered tightly.

“Oh… um. What’s up, Alexa?” She sounded shocked to hear Lexie.

“What do you want? I thought once I left the store I wouldn’t have to talk to you again.” No reason to play nice when Anna-Sue had it in for her and was hanging around with Warren.

Anna-Sue cleared her throat. “Listen, I’m sorry about the way Marissa and I treated you. I wanted to see if we could make up or something. You know, girl talk and all that.”

“Girl talk? Yeah, I don’t think so. Did your unemployed boyfriend put you up to this? If he did, you can tell him—”

“Will you shut up for a second?”

Lexie paused, holding the phone at a distance and staring in shock.

“Yes,” Anna-Sue hissed into the phone. “I don’t know why I was even dumb enough to go along with him or why I’m even warning you.”

Her knees shook. “Yes, what? He did put you to this?”

“Listen, just get out of the house, okay? Sam is on his way over there. He called me awhile ago frantic, screaming something about you and the Kincaids messing with him.”

“Oh, my God, are you se—”

Lexie’s feet turned to lead as the back door jerked open. Sam. Her mind raced. Shit, shit. Her head flew toward the knives on the counter. Too late. He rushed forward knocking her to the ground as she let out a scream.

“You fucking bitch,” he blasted, scruffy-faced and wild-eyed. “Think any of those assholes are going to rescue you?”

Out of her mind with fear, Lexie could hear Anna-Sue in the background on the phone screaming her name. Hang up and call for help, you idiot, Lexie wanted to yell at her.

She planted her palms on the ground and scrambled to get up, but Warren knocked her down with the front of his boots.

“What do you have against me? You think I’m flattered by this attention.” She crawled up again and coughed, chest hurting. “Wrong way to my heart.”

He snorted. “Who says I wanted your heart, especially now that the entire town knows you’re whoring it up for those Kincaid boys.” He grabbed her by the collar and hauled her up. “Those fuckers got my father arrested a few minutes ago. I should have burned down this goddamn ranch with the facto—”

Lexie raised her knee and aimed for his groin but missed. Warren’s eyes grew wilder, raising his hand the same moment a loud growl erupted from the doorway. Lexie slumped against the counter in relief, unable to hold her weight as an enraged Connor barreled into the kitchen toward Sam.

“You sick piece of shit.” Connor crammed his fist into Warren’s face.

Regaining her focus, Lexie grabbed up the phone and dialed for help.

Warren managed his way out of Connor’s hold, scurrying for the knife on the counter. Lexie beat him to it, snatching up the weapon and pointing it to Warren’s chest.

“What are you going to do, Lex, stab me with it?” He gave a bloody grin.

Connor jerked him back, kicking his feet out from under him. Warren fell to the kitchen floor with a definite thud.

“Shut up. You’ve dirtied our floor as it is.” Connor crooked his finger to her. Right away, she caught his meaning, and Lexie jammed her foot into Warren’s groin. The sound of his wail before Connor’s fist connected once again to his face sent her spirit soaring.

By the time the two deputies arrived, Warren had awoken from his stupor, belligerent as ever as he listened to his rights being read.

“Are you okay?” Owen asked as they headed inside the rented car.

Lexie nodded and turned to Logan and Connor in the back. “I’m fine.” She gazed out the window. “Do you think we left enough flowers for her?” They had adorned her mother’s grave with so many flowers only the carving on the headstone was left uncovered. Still, she needed to make sure it had been done right.

“It was enough, honey,” Logan said.

They’d taken this trip to Cheyenne last night, a few days after Sam Warren’s arrest. Thankfully, he was rotting somewhere in county jail alongside his father. Both were awaiting transport to a larger facility.

The Warrens were the least of her concern however. Her men were feeling guilty about what happened that day. Connor was taking it harder than the others, blaming himself for not arriving sooner and leaving her alone in the house. She only hoped her assurances that he’d done nothing wrong would assuage his guilt over time. He did save her after all, and that was the most important thing.

When they’d suggested the trip to Cheyenne, she assumed it was borne out of their guilt, but one look into their eyes and she’d known it was borne out of love. Everything her men did for her was done out of love.

“Yeah, I guess you’re right,” she answered. “Know what? I think Momma probably enjoyed the sight of the three of you, looking so sexy, way more than those flowers.”

Connor laughed. “No one wants to see our ugly mugs.”

She giggled. “I do. Every single day.”

Owen grumbled and pulled into the parking lot of their hotel. “Speak for yourself and Logan. I’m the best-looking Kincaid.” He grinned at her. “Guess that means you get to sit next to me on the airplane instead of spending the next nine hours looking at those two.”

They entered the hotel, and Lexie caught the clerk, a twenty-something man, sneaking a furtive glance at them as they turned the corner. A different clerk had been at the desk last night, sputtering and looking befuddled when she saw their reservation for a single suite. The cleaning lady had dropped her mop at the sight of her coming out of the room this morning alongside all three men.

“What’s next?” Lexie asked as they hopped into elevator.

“Room service, fuck you senseless, sleep, airport tomorrow morning.”

Lexie nudged Owen in the ribs. “Be glad I love that dirty mouth.”

Logan drew her to him. “Ignore Owen. What would you like to do?”

“Honestly?”

Connor slid the card into the door. “Honestly, baby. You know we spoil you anyway, why else are we flying all the way to Maui?”

“Because the three of you wanted to do the ceremony there as much as I did.” She grinned at them.

Logan lifted his brow. “Lexie, just tell us what you want.”

“I just want to lay back, relax, and think about how lucky I am to have not one but three men who complete me heart, body and soul.”

Owen laughed. “I’m disappointed, darlin’. I was looking forward to our Friday night free-for-all in Cheyenne.”

“Well, now you have the honeymoon night free-for-all to look forward to, all three of you.” She smiled at them, hoping the love she felt would always come pouring out in everything she did and said to them. Agreeing to spend the week on Circle-K had been nothing compared to the gamble she had taken by opening her heart to these men. And what a worthy gamble it was. Not for anything in the world would she change the outcome, falling in love and being loved by the three strongest, most passionate men in all of Wyoming.
