Cora watched him walk toward the barn then got her purse and keys.

A couple of men stared when she and the carry-out boy passed them. They had followed her for a few minutes in the store. She thought she’d managed to shake them when they disappeared, only to find them now, waiting outside the store. She steeled herself and headed for her car. She’d handled persistent men before.

The town’s grocery store surprised her by being well stocked. She bought more than she planned and tipped the carry-out boy when he finished loading the bags in her car.

Cora looked around to see what sort of help she might have if the men proved to be a problem. The townsfolk seemed to be polite and friendly. She saw several obvious threesomes, a few with children. At least two of the townspeople she saw appeared to be like Jean-Paul. If she had to call for help there seemed to plenty available.

The men watched as the boy passed them. When he disappeared into the store they headed for her. The taller one finally confronted her as she opened her car door to get in. “You are newly Joined?” he asked.

“Yes.” She kept her tone neutral.

“To what Pack?” The second man came closer.

“Wolf…” She trailed off at their huge grins.

“Congratulations. We look forward to the Sealing.” The tall one nodded.

His companion waved and added, “Health and children.” Cora stood there for several seconds as they walked away, leaving her puzzled.
Sealing?
What the hell was that?
She made a mental note to ask when she got back to the house.

Cora’s phone rang when she was halfway to the ranch. She picked it up, pulling onto the shoulder to answer it. The caller ID told her it was Jean-Paul calling at last.

Her stomach fluttered and tightened at the same time. “Hello?”

“Cora, what have you gotten into there in Texas?” Jean-Paul sounded weary.

“Oh, Jean-Paul, will you forgive me?” Cora blinked back tears.

Chérie
, tell me everything that has happened.” His soft voice soothed her. He didn’t sound as angry as she feared. She began with the attack at the rest stop. He listened without interruption until she reached the events of the night before.

“Now I hope I have four wonderful lovers.” She tried to keep her tone light.

“Ah,
mon amour
, you are a treasure. We shall see.” His response lifted her spirits. They were dashed with his next words. “I have now some bad news I must tell you.”

Dread settled in her heart as he told her of the attack and what it meant. “Are you all right?”

“I am fine. I have always had a plan for something like this. I have left no trace in New Orleans.” He sighed. “All your lovely things, if you do not have it with you, it is gone. I saved what I could, but times like this, it is best to let them go.”

“All I care about is you. All that matters is you’re all right. Will I see you again?” Cora felt a pang of loss for her things, but she could replace clothes. She could never replace Jean-Paul.

“In time,
mon amour
. There are things I must do before I arrive on your doorstep, hat in hand.”

“Be careful…Come back to me.” Cora’s voice broke, tears streaming down her face.

“I love you, very much,
chérie
.” It sounded as if he might be crying as well.

“I love you, Jean-Paul.”

“Tell your
loup-garous
that,
mon amour
. Tell them often.” He disconnected.

Her Werewolves were waiting at the top of the trail when Cora arrived. They knew something was wrong. She could see they felt her turmoil by the tension in their bodies. The strength and comfort she felt radiating from them calmed her. Jean-Paul was right. She needed to tell them she loved them. When she got out of the car, she went to Wolf first. She took him in her arms, holding him for a long moment before she kissed him. “I love you,” she whispered. Cora did the same for Rafe, then Dale. When she finished, she stepped back and looked them over. “Let’s go home.”

Chapter Twenty:

Dreams Do Come True

Wolf took a moment to fix the view before him in his memory. Cora sat on the porch steps beside Rafe. He could see that Rafe’s arm around her gave her a safe, secure feeling from the way she leaned into him. Dale sat on the bottom step, leaning against Cora’s legs. This was everything he’d ever dreamed. She played with Dale’s hair. Wolf smiled. That Dale let her do that said a lot. Dale hated anyone bothering his hair.

With a sigh, he stepped outside and sat down behind Dale. The moon was rising, a fat orange ball in the deep blue sky. It looked close enough to touch. A perfect night for a run. Cora ran her fingers through his hair. She leaned down, placing a kiss on the top of his head. “Go.”

He caught her hand, pressing his lips to the palm. Then he stood and nudged Dale. “Come run with me.”

Dale was up like a shot. He turned to look at Cora. She smiled, waving them off. “Have fun.”

Wolf headed for the creek with Dale close behind. When he was sure he was out of sight of the house, he slowed to let Dale catch up. “Cora doesn’t need to see the change. Not yet.”

Dale just grinned. Without a word he let his feral form take over. Wolf gave a breathless laugh, doing the same. It didn’t take long before two sleek shapes stood beside the creek, dark as night, something of both wolf and human in their alien form.

Dale nudged him then ran for the boulders. Wolf followed with a mock snarl. They chased each other through the rocks until they began to feel their muscles ache. Wolf saw they’d ended up at Dale’s special place, the little waterfall the creek made going over the rocks. They couldn’t see the house from the boulder they climbed onto. Wolf lay back on the warm rock next to Dale.

“She loves us.” Dale’s voice held a note of wonder in it.

“Yes, I believe she does.” Wolf turned his head to look at Dale.

“She loves this other man.”

“Yes.”

“Would it help if I killed him?”

“No. We have to tolerate him. For Cora’s sake.”

“We could get the Vampires in Old Town to do it.”

“She’d know. She hears us. And you know you can’t hide anything from your
chienne
.” Wolf rose up, moving over Dale, straddling his hips. “Or your Alpha.” He kissed Dale. Hard.

Dale gave a low whine. He returned Wolf’s hard kiss. Wolf nipped Dale’s bottom lip before he pulled back. “Now, no more talk of killing. This is our time. Just me and you under the moon and stars.” He drew his claws lightly down Dale’s chest.

“Fuck me.” Dale’s voice was a breathless whisper.

Wolf pushed a knee between Dale’s legs, parting them. Dale spread them wider, opening himself to Wolf. Dale loved it this way, face to face, with his cock tight against his belly. Wolf ran the pad of one finger down the underside of Dale’s erection. He groaned.

Wolf smiled. He was going to make this last. He bent forward and licked. Dale gasped, his body jerking. Wolf gripped Dale’s hips, holding them still against the rock as he tasted every inch of his lover’s velvet skin.

Dale writhed beneath him, short, desperate little moans coming from his throat. Wolf’s dick ached. It was time. Wolf pushed into Dale’s body slow and easy.

“Wolf…” Dale whimpered, pleading.

Wolf began to move. Soon his groans joined Dale’s cries. The heat between them grew along with the tension until they both came with a howl.

When they caught their breath, Wolf withdrew from Dale’s body. He sat up. “Let’s go take a dip in the creek. Maybe I’ll let you fuck me.”

* * * *

They watched Wolf and Dale run off into the night. She kept quiet until she thought she would not be heard by anyone but Rafe. “What are they going to do?”

“Run, change, run some more, fuck.” Rafe slipped his arm down to her waist. Cora snuggled closer, enjoying his heat and the firm strength of his body.

“Would you like to join them?”

“Join them? No, when you’re my age, you learn to pace yourself. To save your energy for other things.”

“Ah, like keeping the porch from floating away. I see.”

He smiled. “Yeah, something like that.”

He pulled her closer, covering her mouth with his, slipping his tongue past her lips to dance with hers. Without breaking the kiss he stood, lifting her to her feet, pulling her into his arms.

“What if the porch escapes?” she whispered against his lips.

He chuckled. “Let it. We’ll get a new one.” He stopped any further questions by dipping his tongue in to taste her again.

Cora let Rafe carry her into the house before she wriggled around to face him, wrapping her legs around his waist. His strong fingers gripped her ass, holding her against his body. Her clit rubbed against him through the layers of clothing. By the time they got up the stairs she was gasping.

In the bedroom they couldn’t get their clothes off fast enough. She tried to keep rubbing her body against his until they were naked and he lifted her up again. Her legs went around him once more. He lowered her onto his erection, burying his cock in pussy.

“Fuck me,” she moaned.

The two steps he took to the bed, the way he kept her impaled on his cock as he knelt with her, nearly made her come. He laid her back, his full weight on her. Then he began to move, long, slow thrusts that made her feel like liquid fire. He changed his angle, driving her higher.

His low moan combined with the heat of his semen filling her sent her over into bliss.

Cora lay there with Rafe, dozing until Wolf and Dale came in. They made love until they were too sated to move.

Chapter Twenty-One:

A Near Thing

Dolores glared at her Pack. “They’ve registered with the council. I had to hear this from one of the
humans
because my Pack was busy farting around instead of doing their job.” The Werewolves in question cringed. Dolores’s voice rose to a screech. She rounded on Bill, her Alpha. “I’m going to pay the council a little visit.
You
are going to go out to that ranch and take care of this. I want that ranch burned to the ground. I want this mating stopped. I want
her
. Wolf is mine. I want him in my bed or dead. Nobody defies me and gets away with it.”

Bill’s eyes narrowed. He held in his complaints. Dolores never listened. She wanted the power a large Pack would bring too much to care about anything else. He knew what a visit to the council meant. She’d swish her tail at that wrinkled old man to get what she wanted out of the toothless cur. He regretted ever having sniffed around the woman. Still, no one else set his blood on fire the way she did. He loped out of the ramshackle adobe they called home, followed by his Pack. A few of the Werewolves from Mexico snickered. He’d take care of them as well when this was over.

Outside, the Pack waited for orders. Bill pointed at the three humans sitting on the tailgate of an old truck. “You three, burn the ranch. Capture the woman.” He spat then turned to his Pack. “Now let’s go. I heard there are some new girls at the Ice House.”

* * * *

Wolf put the saddle on Princess. “We’ll go upstream to the waterfall. There’s a nice place up there for a picnic. Or whatever.” He tightened the cinch.

“Or whatever?” Rafe raised an eyebrow at him.
