Chapter 34

The commotion that had plagued the Paradise had finally died out and the hotel was back open for business. Everyone was starting to come back and express some kind of interest in the many things that were all around the hotel.

After all, the hotel needed to do everything it could in order to possibly win back the trust of the general public. After all the damage and turnover, it was clear that something had to be done. Simply enforcing a new sense of urgency to take care of security around here was the start of it all. It was as though a brand new day was about to dawn at the Paradise Hotel.

One month later, the news crews came back.

“Tonight, it happened again—another death at the Paradise Hotel. What has happened here and does it relate to anything from the past? Turn in to our newscast next for more information.”

“Tonight’s top story, we have a sudden revelation in the case of the death of a call girl. We go to Aaron Barkes at the Paradise Hotel for more information.”

“Well, George, it seems like it wasn’t long since we came to report on a mysterious death at the Paradise Hotel, but this time around we have a bit of certainty over what happened to the woman who was found dead here three days ago.

“Call girl, Juana Torreareal, who had been working on the streets of Columbus for the past two years as a companion for hire, was found dead in a room on the fifth floor of the Paradise Hotel three days ago. The inspection of her room was completed and local police chief Carl Adams found an alarming discovery.”

“We found that Ms. Torreareal had ordered room service and it was found that her order contained a good amount of strychnine, an acid that we haven’t seen in recent years around here. We are uncertain as to where this acid came from but we found that the steak dinner that she ordered contained a substantial amount of strychnine inside it.”

“Forensics investigators found an injection site inside the steak dinner where the acid may have been injected into the meal.”

“The investigative team has completed their search of the restaurant’s kitchen and has found nothing. With me now, is the interim head chef of the Blue Plate. Jesse, what information have you been given on this incident?”

“I honestly haven’t even seen anything and I’ve never even heard of this stuff. The only things we have for injecting are those pastry nozzles we use for our desserts.”

“While we don’t have many details as to what could have caused this death to occur, we can tell you that whoever caused this death must have had access to such a compound. Until then, the Blue Plate restaurant at this hotel is closed until further notice, as an investigation is held. It is safe to assume that no one from the last rash of incidents at this hotel could have been responsible, but only time will tell what could have happened here. Back to you, George.”

Two days later, it was determined that there was no foul play in the case. It was considered that the prostitute had injected the acid into her meal herself and consumed it as a means of committing suicide. This could have been from a desire to get out of a business that she didn’t want to be in. It was believed that she felt it was the only way out.

That night, two prostitutes and the two men that were with them, were pushed off the balconies on the fifteenth floor to their deaths. The two incidents occurred within twenty minutes of each other. Both bodies were actually together at the same space on the sidewalk at one point, and one person was almost injured by the first body falling from the hotel.

The police crews and news media came back. Yellow tape went up over the fifteenth floor and the sidewalks surrounding the immediate west end of the hotel.

As these latest deaths were occurring, the Paradise’s latest advertising campaign was airing over the television waves.

“Are you looking for a quality place to stay, while in Columbus? If so, then make the Paradise Hotel your choice!” a man’s voice said as a picture of the hotel was shown.

The video then cut over to Sandra standing in the newly redecorated lobby. She addressed the listeners with a big smile, “The Paradise is filled with many of the best things that you expect from a high-end hotel. We have all sorts of different features that will make your stay at the hotel all the more enjoyable.”

Pictures of the various amenities available at the hotel then scrolled across the screen as the unknown man’s voice continued, “The Paradise is home to all sorts of fun features, including full-size bathrooms, kitchens in some rooms, high-definition television sets, and private balconies all around the hotel. Everything is designed with a beautiful and elegant environment that provides you with convenience, safety, and privacy so you can have more fun and relax.

“When you’re not in your room, you can take advantage of the Olympic-size pool here at the Paradise as well as the Blue Plate restaurant. We also have a florist on hand for all sorts of special events. You can even host your own private event or conference here.

“If it’s quality, luxury, and convenience you want, take a look at the Paradise Hotel! We’re located just one block from the nearest bus station and three blocks from the arena. You can contact us by phone today for reservations or you can set up your own reservation, through our automated system online. The odds are we have a room that’s right for whatever you might be interested in.

“Remember, you can trust us at the Paradise Hotel to provide you with an experience unlike anything you’ll ever find in town! The experience is truly worth dying for!”
