She left with a face-splitting grin, singing to herself. Noah commented, “She sure is happy.”

“What about you?”

“Don’t ask me such a difficult question now.”

“When would you like me to ask you again?”

“You might ask me after you’ve fucked me.”

“Fucked or loved you?” I queried while locking the cubs’ transport box. Noah didn’t answer right away. I looked up to see him staring at nothing in particular. “Noah?”

“What about us?”

Confused, I repeated his question. “What about us?”

“That was my question.”

“Rephrase it so I understand it.”

“Will it change… things between us if we don’t work together anymore? What about our schedules? What if they clash all the time? What if—”

I strode toward him, swooped him into my arms, and kissed him. He wrapped his arms around my neck and his legs around my waist. I steadied him with one hand under his ass while we kissed. We stopped only when both of us needed to come up for air.

“We haven’t seen much of each other during work because we both had too much to do. That won’t change. Now stop worrying that pretty head of yours. One of us has to stay handsome.”

“You—”

I hushed him by laying a finger on his lips. We were both grinning when I said, “Do
not
say it.”

He fluttered his eyelashes at me in mock-innocence. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“You don’t seriously believe I’m buying this, are you?”

“No.”

“Good. Now let’s go home. I have a hot boy toy wanting me to fuck him.”

I gave his ass a playful slap before setting him on his feet. We bent down to grab the transport box, lifted it, and exchanged a quick smile. In companionable silence we carried the box with the whining cubs to the car. Once inside, Noah turned to me and said, “I changed my mind.”

I froze with my hand midway to the ignition.
No.
That couldn’t be true. “Noah!”

“What?”

“Turner and Heller already agreed to your transfer. You can’t—”

This time he interrupted me. “Don’t be silly. I changed my mind about you fucking me.”

“You’re not up for it tonight?”

“No, you dickhead. You asked me if I wanted to be fucked or, um, loved.”

He didn’t elaborate further. Then again, he didn’t have to. “Making love it is, then.”

Starting the car, I thought it would
never
get boring with Noah. But maybe it would be less exciting in the future. Hopefully.

Aw shucks! Who am I kidding?
