Hours later, they both lay next to each other, sated. Wendy glanced over to see that Kieran’s eyes were closed. His breathing was still labored.

“Where are we going to live?” Wendy asked, rolling to her side, facing him.

His eyes remained closed, his lips curved up. “Where do you want to live, wife?”

With her fingertips, she traced a lazy circle on his chest. “Anywhere you are is where I belong, husband.”

“But.” He peered at her from beneath his lashes.

Wendy giggled. “But, I would like to be close to Emma. She’s going to have a baby, and I want to spoil him or her. I have to borrow babies since you and I can’t have any together.”

All sign of playfulness gone, Kieran opened his eyes and studied her. “I’m sorry. I’d forgotten. Does that disappoint you Wendy? Our inability to have children?”

She shook her head and leaned over him, kissing his lips. “Not at all. I never planned to have kids. It’s funny. I always thought I’d have to ensure that when I married that my husband would be okay with not having children. What about you Kieran? Are you disappointed?”

“I never planned to be married, much less have kids. Can’t say I ever gave it much thought. We’ll just have to borrow my brother’s kids. I have a feeling he and Emma will have plenty.” He smiled fondly. “I knew you would want to return, so I spoke with Julian, and he agreed to let us return to Atlanta.”

Wendy let out a sigh of relief. Then, she frowned, “What about the key? The Queen insists that I must guard it.”

“The Queen has agreed that you can continue to guard it as long as I guard you. On the condition that we return to Ireland at least once a year.”

Wendy laughed. “You made all those agreements today during our wedding party? You were busy.”

Kieran kissed the tip of her nose. “Yes, I wanted to make sure we discussed the particulars before both the Queen and Julian left. By the way, until our house is rebuilt, I hope you don’t mind living at Fallon’s.”

“No, not at all,” Wendy replied and sighed, running her fingers across the hard muscles of his chest.

“We really are getting our happily ever after, aren’t we?” Wendy whispered.

Kieran rolled to his side and faced her. “Yes, Wendy, we are.”

His lips covered hers.

A soft breeze ruffled through the trees, and the swishing of branches played against the windowsill. Wendy looked to the darkening sky outside.

Soon, they’d be back in Atlanta, and Kieran would return to battling demons and protecting innocents.

There was still much to do there. But for this night, an entire evening, she’d push it all away and concentrate on being in love.
